Coleg Cambria’s Centre of Engineering Excellence for Aerospace Development and Training works collaboratively with local employer Airbus, its key suppliers and the wider aerospace industry to provide a range of academic and vocational training programmes for Airbus employees. The programmes cover aircraft manufacturing, aircraft maintenance and advanced materials development.

Airbus employs college staff on a permanent full-time basis. This enables staff to have full knowledge of developments at the company, with a positive impact on academic and vocational programmes. The close integration between the Centre and Airbus also means that Airbus employees benefit from a choice of training options tailored to their specific careers and needs. These include training programmes from foundation level to post-graduate.

The Centre was influential in establishing an Advanced Materials Training Academy in the UK that was subsequently replicated by Airbus in other European countries. The close relationship between the college and Airbus has resulted in Airbus employees achieving over 7,000 nationally accredited qualifications at vocational, graduate and postgraduate levels at the time of recognition by the Prizes scheme. The aerospace industry has been a national success story and the Centre of Engineering Excellence at Coleg Cambria is well positioned to provide the industry with high quality training.
